White sandy beaches in BelizeNature lovers and tourists worldwide are discovering the natural beauty and resources of Belize. Belize is blessed with the second largest barrier reef in the world which runs the length of the country. Situated between the reef and the coast are the cayes. Most cayes have modern air-conditioned hotels that offer scuba-diving, fishing, wind-surfing, and yacht-sailing. The restaurants carry a variety of food and the seafood is fresh and tasty. There are shops for souvenirs, jewelry made from black coral, and local handicrafts. The white, warm, sandy beaches surrounding the cayes are a magnet for sun lovers.

The Belize Barrier Reef is where snorkelers and divers find an underwater world worth capturing on film. In the north are the lowlands of Orange Walk and Corozal, the districts are barely populated therefore making it a sanctuary for animals and plants alike. Exquisitely preserved in this area are the Mayan Ruins of Altun-Ha, Cuello, Lamanai, Santa Rita, and Cerros. Butterflies and Baboons are also in this area.

Blue HoleIn the west there are the two bustling towns of Santa Elena and San Ignacio, these towns are only seven miles from the Guatemalan border, which make them the launching site for trips to Tikal, the most developed Mayan Ruin in Peten, Guatemala.

In the south lies the natural phenomenon known as the Inland Blue Hole, a perfectly round blue swimming pool carved by nature. Halfway between here and the southern most district of Toledo, lies Placencia where you will find some of the best diving in the world along with its pristine beaches. These two districts are dotted with Mayan Ruins and house the only Jaguar Reserve in this hemisphere.
